Everyone likes to have clean, healthy and shiny hair. In today's world air conditioning, heat and cold, environmental damage, chlorine and daily washing can affect the quality and lustre of our hair.
Hair is mostly made up of protein and includes a small percentage of moisture. Each hair shaft located under the scalp is known as a follicle. The follicle produces keratin, which is a protein substance. Each strand of hair is moisturised by an oil gland in the follicle which moisturises and protects the hair.
For natural silky shiny hair, make up the following recipes for a natural pick-me-up to nourish your hair or to help relieve an itchy scalp.
To change dull and lifeless hair to healthy shiny hair try the following recipe:
- 50mL olive oil
- 5mL Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil
Mix Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil and olive oil together. For easier application, warm the two oils by pouring into a plastic or strong glass bottle and stand in hot water for 10 minutes. Gently massage oil onto scalp to stimulate blood flow to hair roots and comb through hair. Contain hair in a shower cap or wrap in clean towel and ‘cook’ for 15 – 20 minutes. Shampoo and condition normally. More than one shampoo may be required to remove excess oil. Some consumers have advised this can also promote hair growth.
- 50 mL white vinegar
- 5 mL Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil
- 1 litre water
To relieve an itchy scalp, combine the above ingredients and shake well. Rinse hair over a basin several times with the solution to ensure even distribution. Immediately shampoo and condition hair as normal.
Rub a few drops of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil into your scalp or add to shampoo to stimulate blood flow to hair roots.
“I have suffered with loss of hair through a nervous condition and have been many years trying everything – even a specialist, only to be told there was nothing anybody could do. The other day somebody told me to use eucalyptus oil which I did. I just couldn’t believe the results. I have hair coming all over my head. I apply it each night, in the morning wash it off and massage my head. I noticed my hair showing in three weeks. I just couldn’t put it in words what it means to me, only just a big thank you.” R.B. “Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil is very good for an itchy scalp. I rub it well into my scalp in the evening, leave it overnight and wash thoroughly next morning”. Mrs M. VIC
“Bosisto’s ‘Parrot’ Brand Eucalyptus Oil is very well known to me as I have been using it for various purposes for years – I always add a few drops to the water when washing combs and hair brushes as it thoroughly cleanses and disinfects them”. M.S. VIC
Head lice spread very quickly among young children and once they have hatched, can make the head very itchy. Unfortunately normal hair washing does not kill or wash them away.
Eucalyptus oil has traditionally been used to help kill head lice and their eggs due primarily to the eucalyptus vapours. If an outbreak of head lice has occurred try the following:
- 3mL Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil
- 30mL regular shampoo
Add Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil to your regular shampoo in the ratio above (for example if 60mL of shampoo is required, use 6mL of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil). Mix ingredients together. Shampoo hair and cover with a plastic shower cap for approximately 10 minutes. Remove the shower cap, rinse hair and towel dry. Comb hair with a fine tooth (nit) comb to help remove eggs. Repeat as often as required. If irritation occurs discontinue use.
Alternatively carefully spray the hair with Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Spray and cover with a plastic shower cap for approximately 10 minutes. Wash with shampoo and comb with a fine tooth comb.
